I am still alive, yeah I am. That's how stretched things are these days that I don't find time to even read blogs. I have six assignments lined up for submission and I will have to work 20 hours a week to subsidise my living expenditure and the time involved in travelling to get to the workplace is one fourth of the time I spend there. Now then, I have already gone into economics and the psychiatry of time management. Out there some where lays this exponent yet integral part of everything, Motivation. I am not sure how many people do regard this as the basic factor but I am almost certain that each and everyone would associate to Motivation as "the" stimulus which drives people crazy.
I don't want to get into details of phycology. I am neither Robbins nor Swami Sugabodhananda. Let’s take blogging as an example. I always take my life as examples or at the most any common situations since there is a matter of personal privacies involved when I talk about someone else's. Talking about mine, I started blogging since I wanted to get into sports journalism or some where inside a publication side of a sports industry. But I drifted away from that and am doing a MBA now, that's of irrelevance when it comes this post. So this initial motivation or stimuli (internal stimuli) was up to such an extent that even if a wall would come in between I would break through to blog in the initial stages. I would want to consider blogging life same as the life of a product. I will term it as Blogging Life Cycle.
There maybe many exceptions to Blogging Life Cycle. I have assumed lot of factors here. Let me see how far the similarities are. Whenever a product is launched into the market there are always people who buy it or start using it immediately. We term it or the marketing terms it as Innovators. Then come the Early adopters. These two are the primal and crucial forces, when it comes to any product, over here its blogging. Once these people are satisfied with the concept and approve of its identity then the whole world will catch up depending on the Market segment that the product is focusing on. Blogging is similar to that. I will say that almost all products are similar to this.
Okey, we have got into the marketing aspects of blogging trying to discuss about motivation. That was the main emphasis of my last para. My observation is that Marketing is vert important for giving the stimuli. People spoke about blogs and their advantages & demerits wherever I went. I read blogs, began commenting in it, started one of my own, names it as Sambhar to Sydney, wrote crap in it, few bloggers even read it, one or two commented, which acted as a stimuli to go ahead with writing more crap and I wrote more. Now that you know why I involved Marketing inside Motivation, I will continue with it.
Some where down the line I started loosing interest due to variety of reason even then we had a little blogging group, I should say, that kept appreciating the others for their content (external stimuli). But that some how got pulled back due to various reasons and I gripped my threshold on Sambhar to Sydney mainly due to the external stimuli. Law of Diminishing Marginal Utility is certainly the case for everyone but some how there are exemptions to the law, which are very few. So coming back into the termilogy of Motivation again I can say this plays an important part inside doing everything.
I began to think about this since I had to write an essay on performance management in the context of organisation and strategic goals. But I felt this is the prime factor that drives people in general towards the achievement of self and on larger picture captivate the goals on a longer run for the company too. Without these prime stimuli everything else is obsolete according to me. My prime argument in this paper is going to be based on this point offcourse covering the Managers, Organisational Goals and Corporate Governance in the loop.
Consider for example my mom. She works in the Banking Industry from the past 25 years. This was the first job that she got. She has around 12 years to give to the company. She just got appraised for her services to the bank. Think about someone like her. What kind of motivation you think she will have? She has may be not doing the same work, but for sure doing the same "kind" of work. What makes her do that? Internal stimuli are definitely not the reason. Bingo! External Stimuli is unquestionably the reason for that I would say. I presume this is the reason with almost everyone. So this is certain that Marketing forms an integral part of Motivation and Motivation in turn forms a life system.
Between the result of the first ever examination was out today. I was surprised to score the second highest in class even though I missed HD by 0.75 of a mark. See this is what I call as a stimuli! And then there is other side to it. My second exam marks were out and I just managed to pass the paper. Even this is a stimulus to do better in the next exam.
I always say this "World respects performance not potential".
