UTS Graduate School of Business conducted their Majors day today for students of the business school pursuing their MBA's and Master of Business programs. From an academic point of view it is very important for students to know which area they are going to specialise into. It is a well known fact that specialisation is driving the whole management crazy; it is the need for specialisation which has made people to diversify themself in to so many niche-segments like finance, marketing or general management. Like ants even humans have realised the need for specialisation long time back especially after the World War II, when the need for specialised knowledge into a desired field became distinctively evident.
From the following example you can understand the status of any business students mind. My German friend who has a background in media relations is very much interested in Finance and Strategy. She has all her work experience and studies back home in
One is that she cannot completely do Finance as her majors since she wants to do Strategy as well. But if she does Strategy as one of her sub-major then she wouldn't be a complete Finance person. So she is in this dilemma as to choosing her majors. For students like her, this Fair provided an opportunity to ask questions and collect data's at a primary level such that it could influence her decision accordingly. Most of students are caught in this dilemma, I would say. The most common one is the decision of taking Finance or Marketing as their major or sub major. Number of students belonged to this category whereas there were others having heaps of others dilemmas as well.
